Concoct

A hybrid physical-digital laboratory where real liquid meets digital flow

Concoct is a narrative-driven installation set within a futuristic fictional laboratory. In this piece, interaction is woven into the set, the story and the surrounding environment, placing participants in the role of operators adjusting a complex chemical experiment. Around the room, a series of levers and control mechanisms allow visitors to alter the “chemical balance” of the system.

At the centre of the installation sits the final mixing chamber: a shallow pool of water infused with white pigment. Onto this surface we project a live fluid simulation, producing vivid currents of colour that appear to swirl and combine within the liquid. Real water flows continuously from overhead pipes into the pool, carefully aligned with the projected simulation so that the physical movement of water blends seamlessly with the digital flow. By combining physical materials, projected imagery and environmental storytelling, Concoct creates a hybrid physical-digital experience.

Applications & Versatility

This “phygital” approach is perfect for projection based experiences, science galleries, or themed hospitality. It offers deep environmental storytelling, allowing brands to demonstrate complex concepts like sustainability or fluid dynamics through a mesmerising, tactile interface where the virtual and physical operate as one.
