Phone System
Phone System
Turning a nostalgic everyday object into an unexpected interactive portal.
The humble landline telephone has quietly become an unexpected interface within several of our installations. Once an everyday object, it now feels novel and inviting, encouraging people to pick up the handset and explore what might happen next. At its simplest, the phones allow visitors to call other handsets located throughout an installation, creating spontaneous moments of connection between audiences.
Beyond basic communication, we have also developed a range of interactive experiences accessed through the phone system. Using combinations of keypad inputs and voice interaction, participants can navigate small games and playful systems that respond through both the phone’s audio and the surrounding environment. The simplicity of the interface is key; almost everyone instinctively understands how to use a telephone, making it an effective way to encourage participation.
Applications & Versatility
An incredibly cost-effective “interaction layer” for large-scale exhibitions, heritage trails, or city-wide art projects. It utilises a low-barrier interface to deliver deep narrative content, turning any phone booth or handset into a private portal for storytelling and localised games.
